‘Can’t Wait’: Golf World Reacts to PGA Tour’s Massive Announcement

The world of golf always introduces new competitions. These tournaments might include brand-new events for the circuit as well as updated iterations of past competitions. Additionally, they can draw more spectators and corporate sponsors to the sport, which will ultimately boost its acceptance and financial viability. And that is certainly something the PGA Tour hopes to bring forth with its recent announcement of a new tournament.

Since LIV Golf emerged last summer, the PGA Tour has seen many new changes to keep up with the competition. And continuing to grow, the Tour has now made yet another change with the introduction of a brand new tournament at one of the best golf courses in the world.

The PGA Tour announces a new tournament at a history-rich site

The PGA Tour announced the launch of a new tournament in South Carolina at a history-rich, 74-year-old golf course. The event, the Myrtle Beach Classic, will debut next year at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

The new competition has already found a sponsor in Visit Myrtle Beach, having recently signed a four-year agreement, and the event will take place as part of the PGA Tour’s FedExCup regular season in 2024. It will be held in the same week as the FedExCup event as a full-field extra event, with the winner of the first tournament walking away with 300 FedExCup points and a part of a whopping $3.9 million purse. The dates of the tournament are not fixed yet and will be announced only when the FedExCup 2024’s full schedule is released.
