‘You Still Have To Hit’: PGA Tour Bound Lexi Thompson Makes a Bold Decree on LPGA’s Restrictive Conditions

Lexi Thompson has been in good form lately. The player’s recent success includes a fifth-place finish with a $75,085 purse at The Ascendant and a strong performance at the Solheim Cup, where she went 3-1. Now, the player seems all set to play on the PGA Tour at the Shriners Children’s Open.

Thompson has garnered significant attention as the seventh woman ever to compete in a PGA Tour event, putting her in the spotlight for the upcoming weekend performance, which undoubtedly comes with high expectations. Amidst this excitement, Thompson has shared something interesting about the restrictions faced in the LPGA. Here’s a glimpse of what she said.

Prior to her gameplay at Vegas for the PGA Tour, Lexi Thompson sat down for a press conference and answered questions related to women’s golf, resilience in play, her Solheim Cup performance, and future accomplishments.

When asked about feeling restricted by the LPGA setups and the freedom she might experience in the PGA Tour due to the longer driving range, Thompson acknowledged feeling constrained in LPGA events and expressed her excitement about playing in Vegas for the PGA.

Regarding her use of the driver off the deck and other unconventional shots, the 11-time LPGA winner added, “You know, the last few weeks I didn’t hit too many drivers, but you still have to hit the golf shots on the LPGA Tour.” She further stated, “It’s just [that] I don’t get to take advantage of sometimes my length on a few of those holes.”

Concluding her remark, the player mentioned, “Here it’s driver on every hole, and I definitely like that. Fire away and swing, get the most distance I can on a few of those holes.”
