Emma Raducanu forced to miss China event due to illness
Emma Raducanu is forced to miss the Hangzhou International Tennis Masters scheduled to take place between June 22-25. Raducanu, who was scheduled to take part in a Chinese exhibition event, contracted a virus and was told by the doctor that she couldn’t travel.
I “Unfortunately I have been sick with flu symptoms the last few days and, although tested negative for covid, my doctor said I could not travel. I am devastated to miss the event in Hangzhou. I have been looking forward to returning back to China for 4 years now and am so sad to also miss coming back to see my family.
I hope to go back as soon as I can see my fans and family,” Raducanu announced in her Weibo post.
Raducanu wouldn’t play in Hangzhou
In May, Raducanu had surgeries on both wrists and her left ankle. When Raducanu was confirmed for Hangzhou in late May, it was pretty much clear that she would just go to the event as a guest.
In Hangzhou, Raducanu was scheduled to be joined by tennis legends such as Marat Safin, Juan Martin del Potro and David Ferrer. Unfortunately for Raducanu, an illness forced her to miss the Hangzhou exhibition. Currently, Raducanu is sidelined as she is in the process of rehabbing from multiple surgeries.
“It is safe to say the last 10 months have been difficult as I dealt with a recurring injury on a bone of both hands. I tried my best to manage the pain and play through it for most of this year and end of last year by reducing practice load dramatically, missing weeks of training as well as cutting last season short to try [to] heal it.
Unfortunately, it’s not enough. I’m having a minor procedure done on both hands to resolve the issues,” Raducanu announced on May 3rd.
