Rory McIlroy on his success at the 2011 US Open

Many people believe that Rory McIlroy has the potential to win the majors again in the coming years, considering that it has been 9 years since the last time he won a major, the 2014 PGA Championship. It seems that a large number of people still believe in the Northern Irishman and think it is only a matter of time before he succeeds in his goal.

Rory McIlroy recently spoke to Sky Sports about one of the best tournaments he has ever played, the US Open, which was played 12 years ago.
“It does feel like a lifetime ago,” -McIlroy told Sky Sports about winning US Open.

“And I honestly think it’s the best week of ball-striking I’ve ever had. I don’t know whether I’ve hit the ball better than that week.”

Rory McIlroy talks about memories
Rory often takes moments to rewatch his performance and to enjoy it.

It was a really great tournament for him and proof that Rory has tremendous quality, but sometimes he lacks certain things to reach the new majors. “I go back and I watch that week quite a lot just because of how well I hit it, but also because, and this is what makes me feel old, I’ve just started to remember watching the highlights rather than remembering actually what happened.

But It’s great to have your name on a trophy like this”. Over the years, Rory realized where he made mistakes, considering that after his performance in 2011, Rory was not particularly successful at the US Open. It seems that McIlroy might finally convince everyone and prove that he really has learned a lot over the years.

“I’ve sort of had my ups and downs in this tournament as the years have gone by, but I feel like I’ve figured it out,” -McIlroy continued. “I think it’s four top 10s in a row coming in here. I’ve started to figure out how to handle US Open conditions and tests and I think there’s certainly a lot more patience in my game than there used to be.”
