Roger Federer stuns with $35,000 detail in stylish Met Gala appearance

Roger Federer has sent tennis fans into a frenzy after making a stylish appearance at the Met Gala in New York. The retired tennis champion turned out with wife Mirka at the annual event on Monday (New York time), wearing a sleek black tuxedo and topping it off with some sunglasses.

Federer is actually hosting the event in 2023. It marks the first time he has attended the Met Gala since 2017, when he famously wore a jacket with a diamond-encrusted cobra on the back. His outfit this year wasn’t as outlandish, but he still showed the style and class that he’s world-renowned for.

Federer was recently named GQ’s Most Stylish Man of the Decade, and he showed why on Monday. As reported by GQ, Federer also wore a white-gold and black-dial version of The Perpetual 1908 – Rolex’s newest watch.

It marked the first time anyone was worn the 1908 in public since it was announced by Rolex last month. According to GQ: “The Perpetual 1908 is an elegant new dress watch from the brand known as the King of the Sport Watch, which lays its foundation with the rugged Submariner, Daytona, and GMT-Master lines.”

Federer recently said: “I believe style is found in the perfect balance of colour and texture. It’s important to accessorise in moments of celebration and for me, the finishing touch and detail is always my timepiece. The new Rolex Perpetual 1908 adds timeless elegance to my look at this year’s Met Gala.”

The Perpetual 1908 retails for USD $23,460, or just over $35,000 in Australia. However it pales in comparison to the $128,000 piece Federer wore in a ceremonial appearance at Wimbledon last year.

Before his hosting duties got underway, Federer joined friend and Editor in Chief of Vogue Anna Wintour for a look at The Costume Institute’s exhibition – Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. He also visited the Cary Leeds Center earlier this week to speak with local junior players, while also catching up with comedian and friend Trevor Noah.
