‘Stuff Happens…’: After a Dismal Performance At the Masters, Scottie Scheffler Reflects on the Tribulation He Endured At Augusta National
It’s been a little less than a week since the 87th Masters was concluded. But, it hasn’t been too late to reflect back on the world’s most historic and traditional golf tournament. Scottie Scheffler won the Masters in 2022 and was, thus, the defending champion this year. Well, recently he reflected back on a conversation he had with his caddie post losing the tournament.
Scottie Scheffler reflects on his 2023 Masters
The defending champion started his fourth day with nine shots behind Koepka. He was off to a slow start, but he shot a birdie at par 4 11th and he started to feel like the defending champion.
His next shot at the 12th, Iron 9 was supposed to be around 155 yards, but rather it was 180 yards, all thanks to the strange wind that was blowing. Once more, his ball plunged into the bushes beyond the green and did not bounce back, becoming another lost ball that was impossible to play.
As a result, his momentum was severely disrupted, leading to a double bogey. After his round, Scheffler commented, “No. 12 killed me this week.” “I still had a chance almost where I could post a score. I made a birdie on 11 and made a good swing there on 12.”
For par 5 13th, the world number two player missed the fairway. However, he attempted a heroic second shot that unfortunately went awry, resulting in his ball being muffle-hooked into Rae’s Creek.
Scheffler then continued for the remaining 5 holes and ended at the 10th position with 2 under 70 on the board.
