‘Viewers Want Real Talk’: Ex-PGA Tour Pro Fires Shots at Lexi Thompson’s Media Controversy While Contradicting the Older Korda Sibling
With the Solheim Cup reaching its climax on Sunday, the golf world would be on its toes to find out the winner of the clash of the Titans. Both teams, US and Europe, are going into the final day of the singles pairing after an 8-8 tie at the end of the second round on Saturday. Besides some great golf, the tournament has seen some controversies too. Lexi Thompson features in one.
Thompson had an embarrassing moment on the 18th hole during the Friday fourballs. Moreover, she refused to comment on the same which invoked widespread response, involving both support — from players like the older Korda sister — and flak, particularly from the media. But now, a former Tour pro took to his Twitter to voice his own concerns regarding her response, voicing out how “viewers want real talk”!
During the second session on the first day of the Solheim Cup, eyeing an eagle, the 28-year-old had tried to chip a shot from the roughs situated on a side hill. But she could only manage to hit a shank, which led to her losing the match in the company of Lilia Vu. In an interview after the same, the golfer remarked on how she didn’t need to comment on that shot, much to the surprise of the interviewer.
But, Ewan Porter, a former professional from Australia, went ahead to comment that the LPGA pro’s “presser has been polarizing.” Moreover, he pointed out that the media is now “walking a finer line with what they can/can’t ask players” all the while indicating how he is a golfer-turned interviewer.
The Aussie explained that it becomes very “fluffy” if they are not able to ask difficult questions. He goes on to say that most of the “viewers want real talk” instead of “fluff”.
