Iag Swiatek is one of the rising stars of women’s tennis. At 19 years of age, she is the first Polish player ever to win a Grand Slam singles title, having taken home the crown at the 2020 French Open.

 

 

Since then, she has come a long way as Swiatek is currently the world no.1.

Iga Swiatek was born in Warsaw. Her father is an Olympic rower for Poland. Iga’s older sister started playing tennis, and she followed in her sister’s footsteps. Swiatek’s residence is in Raszyn, in Poland.

 

 

 

 

Apart from Roland Garros, Swiatek has reached one final on the WTA Tour in 2019 at Ladies Open Lugano. There, she finished runner-up to Polona Hercog and was just 17 years old at the time.

Swiatek has also proved herself at the Grand Slam level in the past. On the junior circuit, Swiatek won the girls’ doubles title at the French Open, and the girls’ singles title at Wimbledon, back in 2018.

 

 

 

She is also a doubles gold medalist at the Summer Youth Olympics in 2018 and a Junior Fed Cup champion with Poland.

 

 

Iga Swiatek: Professional circuit performances
On the professional circuit, Swiatek played on the ITF circuit from 2016 to 2018 and remained unbeaten in all seven finals she played there. She broke into the top 50 in the world rankings in 2019.

 

 

 

At the 2019 French Open, Swiatek reached the 4th round. She stunned 16th seed Wang Qiang in the 2nd round.

In 2020, Swiatek reached the 4th round of the Australian Open and 3rd round at the US Open, before making a big breakthrough at the French Open 2020.

 

 

 

 

The French Open breakthrough was massive as the 19-year-old won the tournament without dropping a single set and lost just 28 games all tournament. She defeated players like Simona Halep and Sofia Kenin on her way to the title.

The 2022 season saw Swiatek taking massive strides toward greatness, as she won 6 consecutive titles on the tour, including the French Open title, which was her second Grand Slam title. Moreover, she also won the ‘Sunshine Double’. Apart from that, she had a record 37-match unbeaten streak which was recently broken by Alize Cornet at the Wimbledon Championships.
