Wimbledon told to refuse Roger Federer entry into All England Club by USA icon

Andy Roddick has jokingly suggested that Wimbledon officials shouldn’t have let Roger Federer into the All-England Club this week, just like last year. The eight-times champion received a standing ovation on Tuesday as he took his seat in the Royal Box for Andy Murray’s straight sets victory against compatriot Ryan Peniston on Centre Court.

The scenes of adulation were a far cry from this time last year, however, when Federer, who had forgotten to bring his All England Club members card, couldn’t even get into the premises.

Unable to present his ID card when stopped by security officials, the 20-time Grand Slam champion was told in no uncertain terms that he could not come in, much to his astonishment.

Having learnt his lesson, Federer returned this year with his card in hand and had no such issues gaining entry. Taking to social media to make light of the situation, he posted a photograph of himself at the All-England Club with two ID cards alongside the caption: “I remembered it this time.”
