I would like to retire on my terms, be competitive and not push my hip to the limit or have a serious injury that precipitates my retirement.I have an idea of when, I would like to leave, but I don’t want to announce anything, everything can change quickly.
I’m still in a phase where I can put myself playing to the max, but I know it won’t last too long.”
The words of Andy Murray during the Wimbledon media day
The former world number one is optimistic about the Grand Slam competition starting on Monday 3 July: “I feel very good from every point of view, I’m finding my rhythm having played many games.
This has always been the most important tournament for me in every season and as I approach the end of my career, I want to take advantage of every opportunity I have.I feel I’m in a great position to show my best level and it gives me enormous confidence knowing that there is only one tennis player with more experience than me, Djokovic.
I’m one of the few who has won here, I know I’m among the best in the world on grass and I feel great physically, so I have to take advantage of all this to have a great tournament.”Murray then concentrated on Nole, the absolute favorite to win: “It was a great workout with him, it’s been a long time since I trained with Novak.
I remember a few years ago in Australia when I was about to retire, training with him and it’s great to see how dramatically things have changed since then. What he has done is incredible, beating Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer is an impressive feat.
It is admirable how he maintains his ambition to keep winning, without getting overwhelmed by nerves or tension. It’s an example of his competitive character.”
