Wimbledon draw: Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic learn their fates

Andy Murray will begin what might turn out to be his final Wimbledon campaign against fellow Brit Ryan Peniston.

Novak Djokovic will, meanwhile, begin the defence of the title he won 12 months ago against Pedro Cachin and No.1 seed Carlos Alcaraz will face Jeremy Chardy.

In the women’s draw British No.1 Katie Boulter will take on Australia’s Daria Saville in the first round of Wimbledon.

Three other British players drew seeds – Heather Watson, who reached the fourth round last year, plays former French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova, Katie Swan meets 14th seed Belinda Bencic and Sonay Kartal takes on 25th seed Madison Keys.

Harriet Dart and Jodie Burrage fared better – the former drawing France’s Diane Parry and the latter American Caty McNally.

Top seed Iga Swiatek takes on China’s Zhu Lin, while two standout draws saw wild cards Venus Williams and Elina Svitolina paired together, and Coco Gauff taking on former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin.

Swiatek’s Wimbledon preparations have been disrupted after she was forced to pul; out of the Bad Homburg Open ahead of her semi-final match on Friday after the world No.1 one said she had come down with fever and possible food poisoning.

Swiatek was set to play Lucia Bronzetti in the semi-finals of the grasscourt tournament, a tune-up event for Wimbledon which begins on Monday.

‘I’m so sorry but I have to pull out of my match today. I had a restless night because of some fever and possible food poisoning,’ Swiatek wrote on Twitter.

‘I’m not able to perform today and I need to take care of myself. I hope I’ll be fine soon. Your support in Bad Homburg was amazing, thank you.’
