Andy Murray’s uncle tells Wimbledon to be ‘ashamed of yourselves’ after poster released

Andy Murray’s uncle has told Wimbledon: “You should be ashamed of yourselves” after an artwork image of stars to promote this year’s Championships left out the double champion.

Fans have been stunned to see images of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz – who have never won the title at SW19 – at the front ahead of Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal.

And female legends Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova and Serena and Venus Williams are relegated into the background.

Niall Erskine, brother of Judy Murray, tweeted: “Appalling at every level, all about the men in the forefront and your own British history maker nowhere to be seen. You should be ashamed of yourselves.”

Jamie Murray tweeted: “Where’s @andymurray?” Illustrator Grant Grünhaupt responded: “Worry not Jamie, there are more paintings on the way”.

Wimbledon confirmed that the poster was the first in a series of illustrations set to be released ahead of this year’s Championships – indicating that Murray will likely appear in the others.

The first one – released on June 13 – shows a series of former champions at the door of the club holding their trophies. Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova and Arthur Ashe are at the forefront while Boris Becker and the Williams sisters can also be seen among others. Alongside it, Wimbledon tweeted: “#Wimbledon – home to generation after generation of trailblazers.”
