Frustrated Alexander Zverev Blasts Chair Umpire in Desperate Attempts to Save Lost Battle at Munich Open

Alexander Zverev recently faced a brutal defeat against Cristian Garin at the Bavarian International. After facing an early defeat at the Monte Carlo Masters, the tennis star was aiming to compensate for the loss in Munich. Although his Chilian opponent emerged victorious with the scoreboard marking 6-4, 6-4, Zverev criticized the decision of the officials to ignore the rain. “At what point are we gonna do something? At what point? Just tell me. Are we not gonna do anything the entire match? Then I’m done. I’m just gonna tank the next two games and I’m done. This is ridiculous. It’s been literally raining,” he said, despising the umpire for not halting the match despite the irrelevant weather conditions.

As the German ATP star’s disappointment could clearly be seen in his argumentative statement against the chair umpire, the tournament stands in a line of discussions, raising concerns about the ignorant behavior of the officials.

Along with the call for interrupting the match, Zverev also threatened the umpire to quit the match in between. As the call he made wasn’t heard and followed, he ended up with evident disappointment on his side.

Besides Zverev’s defeat that caused mid-match chaos, glory followed Garin’s way. As the Chilean ATP star attained this win, he not only advanced to the semi-finals but also became the first player to be out of the top 100 and still defeat Zverev in straight sets since 2015.
