Rafael Nadal makes heartbreaking admission as he shares and Madrid hopes
Rafael Nadal made a heartbreaking statement as he claimed that everything was getting difficult following his latest withdrawal. The Spaniard was forced to pull out of the Monte-Carlo Masters with an ongoing abdominal injury. And he has now shared his chances of competing in the upcoming clay events in Barcelona and Madrid.
Things have gone from bad to worse since Nadal made his long-awaited return at the Brisbane International in January. After spending a year sidelined by a psoas injury, the former No. 1 won two convincing matches before picking up a micro muscle tear during his quarter-final defeat.
The issue has been bothering him ever since, forcing him out of the Australian Open, Doha, Indian Wells and now Monte Carlo. While he continues to train every day, the abdominal pain has troubled him for months and could now rob him of his favourite part of the season – the clay swing.
“Unfortunately, I have had a difficult year and a half,” Nadal recently told Movistar. “Everything is getting difficult, I’m trying every day, in fact I just came from training this morning at home. I have things to solve and the reality is that at the moment I am not able to put myself in a position to continue. On a personal level, everything is good, on a professional level, difficult.”
