US Open LIVE: Kyrgios gives sarcastic take on concerns as Swiatek apologises to Murray
More and more upsets are happening at the US Open now as the second round gets underway. Casper Ruud was the biggest casualty from Tuesday’s matches as the No 5 seed went down to Zhizhen Zhang.
Stefanos Tsitsipas also suffered a disappointing defeat to qualifier Dominic Stricker, which opens up Novak Djokovic’s half of the draw even more. Seeded players Chris Eubanks, Lorenzo Musetti, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Francisco Cerundolo have already been knocked out of Djokovic’s side of the draw.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion faces compatriot Laslo Djere in the next round with all eyes on a possible blockbuster quarter-final with American Taylor Fritz. Meanwhile, Britain’s contingent in the singles draw was reduced by one yesterday after Lily Miyazaki came unstuck against Olympic champion Belinda Bencic.
The rest of the pack are set to play today, including a few big ties including Andy Murray against Grigor Dimitrov. Jack Draper is also up against Hubert Hurkacz while Katie Burrage faces a difficult test against world No 2 Aryna Sabalenka.
