Iga Swiatek has learned her projected to the Montreal title as the Pole could face a former world No 1 in her tournament opener. Swiatek, the top-seeded player in Montreal, has a first-round bye at the tournament. In her first match at the tournament, Swiatek will play against either 2021 Wimbledon finalist Karolina Pliskova or Zhu Lin.
In the Montreal round-of-16, Swiatek is projected to meet No 14 seed Karolina Muchova – the Czech she defeated in this year’s French Open final. In the Montreal quarterfinal, Swiatek’s projected opponent is eighth-seeded Maria Sakkari.
For a place in the Montreal final, Swiatek is projected to play against No 4 seed Jessica Pegula. In the lower part of the draw, there are No 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka and third-seeded Elena Rybakina. With that being said, the expected final is to be between Swiatek and either Sabalenka or Rybakina.
Swiatek aims back-to-back titles in Montreal
After Wimbledon, Swiatek returned to action in Warsaw, where she defeated Laura Siegemund 6-0 6-1 to accomplish her dream of winning a WTA tournament in Poland “I want to thank my team and my family.
It’s not easy to play in Warsaw, but I’m so happy that we could manage and do everything we could today, after a pretty tiring day yesterday. I wanted to put it all in and go for it. I’m pretty happy that I did,” Swiatek said after winning the Warsaw title. After Swiatek won a WTA 250 event in Warsaw, some attempted to belittle the Pole’s win.”What a week it was.
I read somewhere that the 250 WTA tournament is not as important as my next challenges in Canada and in the US. Well…to me it was VERY important and I’m happy I felt so much support and positive energy from you, fans. Thank you for that and see you soon,” Swiatek wrote on X.Now, Swiatek will try to also win Montreal and win back-to-back titles on hard. It remains to be seen if Swiatek can win her fifth title of the year in Montreal.
