BBC release Wimbledon statement as complaints flood in for Novak Djokovic snub
Wimbledon viewers weren’t happy when they were unable to watch Novak Djokovic on BBC iPlayer while his match wasn’t being aired on any of the TV channels.
The BBC has issued a response after fans were left unable to watch the start of Novak Djokovic’s Wimbledon match. The world No 2 opened play on Centre Court on Monday as the defending champion. But when iPlayer didn’t work and BBC One started their coverage late, fans missed seeing him go a break down early on.
Djokovic officially started his campaign for a record 24th Grand Slam title on Monday, taking on Pedro Cachin in his opening match at Wimbledon. As per tradition, he was the first player to compete on Centre Court as the reigning champion.
But there was chaos for those trying to watch along at home as BBC One missed the start of his match, which saw the 36-year-old go a break down to the world No 68. With the BBC iPlayer streams also not working, viewers were unable to see the Argentine take a 2-1 lead.
The BBC quickly responded with a statement about the problem. It read: “We’re aware of a technical issue when streaming some Wimbledon matches on BBC iPlayer. We’re working to fix this as soon as possible.
