‘She’s Not Telling The Truth’ – British Tennis Legend Pokes Ex-wife Chris Evert Days After Her Whole-hearted Banter With Reigning French Open Champion Iga Swiatek
The 2023 French Open was a roller coaster ride for everyone except Iga Swiatek. The Pole won her third French Open title and fourth Grand Slam at the Stade Roland Garros earlier this month. She has been receiving praise and advice from all over the world ever since she defended the trophy.
Tennis legends and former players were awestruck by her game, and everyone has their own analysis of it. From Chris Evert to Karolina Muchova, Swiatek stunned them all. Evert has told ‘The Pole’ that she can win more Slams and even beat her record of French Open titles. Recently, John Lloyd, on a Spotify podcast, made a remark on Evert’s comment.
Lloyd on Iga Swiatek breaking Evert’s record
In a new episode of ‘Tennis Channel Inside-In’, hosted by Mitch Michals, the Brit spoke about all the on and off-court events. Michals and Lloyd discussed Djokovic’s twenty-third Slam and emerging talents like Casper Ruud, Nick Kyrgios, and Aryna Sabalenka. When asked about the seven-time Roland Garros title holder’s comment on ‘The Pole,’ the former number one opined that no one likes to witness other players breaking their records.
John Lloyd said, “If you hear Chrissie say that she hopes that Iga will break that record, she is not telling the truth. She doesn’t want her to break the record. I promise you. She (Evert) is a lovely lady, but no one wants their records broken. They say they do, but they are not telling the full truth.”
The 68-year-old holds the record for winning the most French Open singles titles in WTA. Evert won seven of them and was the only player in both WTA and ATP to create such a record. But Rafael Nadal surpassed her in 2013 and added a total of fourteen to his name. This is the highest for any player, and the record is yet to be broken.
The season of Roland Garros delivered mind-bending games and players. This time, everything from the surface to the outfit is going to change. Are you excited for the next Slam tournament?
The multiverse of players at Wimbledon
The tournament of grass is going to witness players of all ages and expertise claim the trophy. From Andy Murray, who has not won Wimbledon for seven years, to Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is eyeing his first Grand Slam, and Novak Djokovic, who always has a trick up his sleeve, Tennis is in for a magnificent competition.
On the other hand, Iga Swiatek is set to bust her gut on the grass, a surface that never benefited her. While talking to Eurosport, the eighteen-time Grand Slam winner, Evert even stated that the three-time French Open champion would not be satisfied with what she has and will always go for more.
In WTA, Swiatek, Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff are all going to compete fiercely for their first Wimbledon title. Tennis fans are in for a delight as both ATP and WTA have their own probability of gripping the audience with their never-before play.
