Andy Murray’s kids ‘more interested in McDonald’s than tennis’ after seeing Nottingham win
Andy Murray won a title in front of his family for the first time on Father’s Day – and then revealed his young children were more interested in going to McDonald’s. The former world No 1 continued his strong build-up to Wimbledon with a second grass-court title in a week at the Rothesay Open in Nottingham.
Winning the two second-tier Challengers events in Surbiton and Nottingham have seen him win 10 consecutive matches on grass and climb to a provisional ranking of world No 38. The top 32 are guaranteed a seeding at SW19 starting on July 3.
The cinch Championships across London at Queen’s Club starting on Monday will be his final attempt to climb up the rankings before the seedings are confirmed on June 28. Playing as an unseeded player, the two-time champion has failed to get past the third round in his two Wimbledon appearances since his hip operations.
“I am obviously pumped,” said Murray. “When I made the decision to come and play here rather than the 250s, I was at least going to have to win here and then potentially make the semis at Queen’s to be seeded – I did quite well at this stage last year – and I have given myself a chance.
