Nick Kyrgios laughs at women’s tennis as Iga Swiatek wins third French Open crown

Nick Kyrgios appeared to disagree with a tweet arguing against the idea that women’s tennis was boring after a thrilling French Open final.

Nick Kyrgios laughed off the idea that women’s tennis wasn’t boring as Iga Swiatek won the French Open title for the third time in the last four years. The world No 26 replied to Rennae Stubbs’ tweet suggesting that the women’s semi-finals were more exciting than the men’s matches at the same stage.

The women’s singles tournament at the French Open concluded with an exciting final between top seed Swiatek and surprise package Muchova. The world No 1 was a set and 3-0 up before the Czech star stormed back to take the second and started the final set with an early break.

But it was the 22-year-old who retained her title from last year and lifted her fourth Grand Slam trophy after a two-hour-and-46-minute battle. During the match, former pro-turned-coach Rennae Stubbs slammed the idea that women’s tennis was boring an said both the semi-finals and final were proof.

The Australian tweeted: “Don’t tell me women’s tennis boring! The semis were better and now this final is fantastic! Yes the 2nd set of Alcaraz Joker was amazing but the match was blah and the Rudd Zverev match was BLAHHH . Thank goodness for the ladies!”

It comes after the French Open came under fire for scheduling 10 men’s matches across the 11 night session slots again this year, with the women getting just one. Both women’s semi-finals were thrilling encounters, with Muchova coming from 2-5 and match point down in the third set to defeat second seed Aryna Sabalenka.

Swiatek came back from a break down in both sets to defeat Beatriz Haddad Maia before contesting the tight clash with Muchova on Saturday. In comparison, the first men’s semi-final had a disappointing end when Carlos Alcaraz started cramping against Novak Djokovic at 1-1 in the third set and won just one more game – with a final score of 6-3 5-7 6-1 6-1.
