Tennis world erupts over Andy Murray and Roger Federer announcement
Tennis fans have taken to social media in delight after Andy Murray confirmed that he was taking his place alongside Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at this year’s Laver Cup.
Britain’s Murray was named as the third member of six-man Team Europe, which already contains fellow greats Federer and Nadal.
Federer couldn’t hide his excitement about the development after taking to social media to celebrate Murray’s announcement.
The Swiss maestro – who will be playing in the event for a third time – welcomed his Europe teammate by tweeting: “Europe Avengers assemble #teameurope #London”.
Murray – who suffered his earliest ever defeat at Wimbledon after going down to John Isner in the second round – said he was ecstatic to be teaming up with his long-time rivals.
“I’m looking forward to playing the Laver Cup in London,” the three-time Grand Slam winner said.
“I love playing as part of a team and there is a great atmosphere and intensity to the event. I’ve heard lots of good things and I’m excited to be teaming up with both Roger and Rafa for Team Europe.”
