Horacio Zeballos suggests Nadal’s struggles more mental than physical – “If he retires it would be more mental”
Doubles specialist Horacia Zeballos thinks that if Nadal retires this year it would be more because of mental than physical issues.
Rafael Nadal dealt with several injuries in the past year, injuries that kept him from playing his best tennis.
The last three grand slam appearances were all cut short by an injury and it’s something that impacts you mentally besides physically.
If it is the end, it would be because of something more mental than physical.
It is very difficult to say because he has surprised us many times with his ability to come back so well after injuries. I speak to you as a tennis fan more than from logic.
I hope he will be there this year because it is very nice to see him play.
Nadal hasn’t suggested that he’s thinking about retirement but judging by his character it won’t be anything that will be advertised months before it happens.
His uncle Toni recently suggested that Nadal will be back on the court soon with the French Open a target. Zeballos could see him come back from injury yet again but he understands that it’s taking a toll on him.
Like Federer, like Djokovic, Nadal have shown that he can stop and come back with inhuman achievements. He gets injured and then wins, I don’t know, how many more Grand Slams.
Age does not help things to be the same as 10 years ago. Seems difficult for him to return to the top level he has shown for so many years, but he never ceases to amaze us. Let’s hope he comes back strongly.
