Carlos Alcaraz Officially Becomes World No. 1 Again

Carlos Alcaraz is officially back on top of the tennis world, securing the world no. 1 spot on the ATP Tour.

After the conclusion of the 2023 Italian Open, Alcaraz reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the ATP Rankings once again, marking his return to the pinnacle of men’s tennis.

In the early rounds, the Spaniard made his presence felt in the Italian Open, beating fellow compatriot Albert Ramos Vinolas.

However, he then suffered an early exit in the third round, losing to Fabian Marozsán 3-6, 6-7(4).

Yet, his participation at the event was enough to ensure his return to the top spot of the ATP Rankings and mark another week atop.

This marks the third time Alcaraz has held the No. 1 ranking in his career. His first reign lasted from September 12th, 2022, to January 29th, 2023, spanning 20 weeks.

After a brief period, he reclaimed the No. 1 spot from March 20th, 2023, to April 2nd, 2023, adding another two weeks to his tally.

This return marks his third stint at No. 1, bringing his total to at least 23 weeks at the top, which is the 16th place on the all-time list. The rest of the top 10 has also seen some shuffling.

Daniil Medvedev will be ranked No. 2 after his Italian Open triumph, followed by Novak Djokovic who dropped to No. 3, his lowest since January.

Rounding out the top five are Norway’s Casper Ruud and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, who was one of the players defeated by the eventual champion.

Young Dane Holger Rune has climbed to his new career-high in No. 6, followed by Andrey Rublev, Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz, and Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Alcaraz will now have to defend his world No. 1 spot at the upcoming Roland Garros.

After Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal, he immediately became the top favourite and since the top three are all defending a similar number of points, the race is on for the top spot.
