Rising Wimbledon pretender Alexander Zverev will be targeting a less frustrating tournament following a troubled end to his campaign at the All England Club in 2018.
The young German was plagued by a stomach bug that kept him from eating in the 24 hours before his five-set defeat to Ernests Gulbis in the third round-up.
Gulbis had only won one tour match in the same period but capitalised on Zverev’s depleted energy after the fourth seed went two sets to one up, winning the final two sets 6-3, 6-0.
Zverev is back this year as the number six seed at SW17, behind Dominic Thiem and Kevin Anderson.
Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam that does not directly correspond its seedings with world rankings, meaning Roger Federer has been seeded second because of his impressive record on grass.
The knock-on effect is that Zverev has dropped a place compared to his world ranking.
