World No.2 Simona Halep has tested positive for coronavirus. Fans last saw the Romanian tennis player at the French Open 2020 where she lost to the champion Iga Swiatek in straight sets. It is definitely sad news for both fans and Halep as they could not see her for quite some time in the remainder of the year. Halep gave the unfortunate news to her fans on Twitter.
“Hi everyone, I wanted to let you know that I tested positive for COVID-19. I am self-isolating at home and am recovering well from mild symptoms. I feel good… we will get through this together,” wrote a positive looking Halep on Twitter.
Fans were definitely hoping to see more from the 29-year-old professional player. She admitted that thankfully; she only had mild symptoms and nothing was serious. Thus, she is recovering at her home. She also convinced her fans that nothing was troublesome and believed that she would come back on the court soon.
Halep started her 2020 tennis season beautifully by reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open 2020. However, Garbine Muguruza defeated her in a close contest there, denying the third Grand Slam title to her.
After that, what followed was phenomenal. The World No.2 won 3 tournaments back-to-back proving why she is such a great player. She went on to win the Dubai Tennis Championships and then conquered the Prague Open defeating Elise Mertens in the finals in straight sets.
Although Halep didn’t take part in the US Open 2020, she played wonderfully at the Italian Open 2020 and won the title after losing just 1 set in the whole tournament. She even looked good at the French Open 2020 before Iga Swiatek thrashed her in the fourth round.
