Tyson Fury’s dad opens up on mental health issues during visit to Nottingham gym
The father of two-time heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury stopped by a Nottingham gym to speak to young people who may be struggling with their mental health.
John Fury, a former professional boxer himself, took time out at Nottingham School of Boxing in Woodborough Road for an event where he supported young people with their boxing skills.
He also spoke to some individuals who may be at risk of criminal behaviour.
Mr Fury, who normally takes his place in his 32-year-old son’s corner during fights, visited as part of a number of initiatives by Nottingham School of Boxing, and its sister organisation Switch Up CIC, to boost support to youngsters in the city that are experiencing higher levels of anxiety and mental health challenges following the Covid-19 lockdown.
He visited on Monday, May 24 to take part in the children’s boxing session and to talk about his own struggles with mental health during a Q&A session for older children and adults.
