Patrick McEnroe weighs in on Novak Djokovic mystery drink controversy

Patrick McEnroe has come to Novak Djokovic’s defence as he simply says that the Serb would have tested positive for doping if there was anything illegal in the mystery drink he received in Paris. During the Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas match in Paris, a video showed a Djokovic team member mixing up a drink for the Serb.

When Team Djokovic noticed they were being filmed, they tried to block a camera’s view. The video quickly went viral as many were curious to know what was in the drink and why Team Djokovic tried to block a camera’s view.

“As we found out recently with Simona Halep testing positive, these players are getting tested all the time. So if there was anything illegal in the drinks that they were mixing, which they do for them all the time during matches, it’s likely that he would test

positive for it,” McEnroe said on the Holding Court with Patrick McEnroe podcast, as quoted on Sportskeeda.

Jelena Djokovic came to her husband’s defence
The journalist who posted the video described it as “amazingly dodgy.” Jelena wasn’t having it as she suggested that they tried to block a camera’s view because it was nobody’s business to know what they were putting up in the drink.

“I don’t see anything dodgy. In fact, I see people trying to be private about their business in a world where everyone feels like they have every right to point camera at you whenever they want. Apparently, wanting/trying to be private makes you dodgy nowadays,” Jelena Djokovic wrote in her response to the journalist who posted the video.

When asked directly why Novak didn’t directly address the viral video, Jelena had a strong response. “He will talk when he is ready to talk. This whole nonsense about making people speak about something they are not ready because OTHERS are unpatient is absurd.

Sit a bit in silence. Mind yourself more. Not everything you see is controversial. It could be private. Is that allowed?” Jelena Djokovic tweeted.
