‘Disgusting to see’: Emma Raducanu caught in US Open ‘disgrace’

Piers Morgan has been savaged on social media after sensationally taking credit for Emma Raducanu’s stunning triumph at the US Open.

The British teenager arrived in New York last month with a ranking of 150 in the world, just one grand slam appearance to her name and a flight booked out of town after the US Open’s preliminary rounds in case she failed to win her way into the main tournament.

On Saturday she was in Arthur Ashe Stadium, holding a trophy to complete an unlikely and unprecedented journey from qualifier to major champion by beating Canadian teenager Leylah Fernandez 6-4 6-3 in the final.

The 18-year-old became the first qualifier in history to win a grand slam, sending the tennis world into meltdown.

One of the many Brits to celebrate Raducanu’s triumph was controversial media personality Morgan, who has previously criticised the 18-year-old and labelled her a “quitter”.

Morgan savaged Raducanu when she retired during the fourth round in her grand slam debut at Wimbledon earlier this year, saying the teenager needed to toughen up and couldn’t handle the pressure.

He doubled down last week when he said it was “disappointing” to see fans going nuts over Raducanu now that she was winning instead of “quitting”.

“Very disappointing to see wokies going crazy because Emma Raducanu is now winning not quitting,” he tweeted.

“This must be so triggering to losers who are used to you celebrating their failures. Please stop.”
