Iga Swiatek addresses claim that she is ‘dominant just because competition is weak’

Iga Swiatek insists she is not spending a lot of time on social media during tournaments but did have a very honest response to those claiming that she is dominating just because her competition is too weak. In Doha, Swiatek made history by becoming the player with the fewest number of games dropped (5) en route to winning a title.

After winning Doha, Swiatek went to Dubai, where she became the player with the fewest number of games lost (9) en route to reaching a WTA 1000 final. However, there are those who aren’t that impressed with Swiatek’s dominance, insisting she is just this good because she has it easy on the WTA Tour.

Following her Dubai semifinal win over Cori Gauff, Swiatek addressed it.

Swiatek: I know doing this is never easy
“I don’t really hear that a lot because during the tournaments I’m kind of trying to stay off social media as much as possible.

I’m posting my stuff. It’s not like I’m reading a lot. Honestly, I don’t mind that they’re saying if it looks easy or not. I know that it’s never easy. If somebody wins also with a great score, it’s not like. Tennis is such a complicated sport that you’re never going to know why or what happened.

I feel like if you work hard and you give 100% on every match, your chances are going to come. So I’m pretty glad that I can play dominant tennis right now, but I’m really ready for every match and I’m really concentrated and motivated.

I think if I wouldn’t be, I would just have different score. It’s just work, so yeah,” Swiatek said, per Sportskeeda. Meanwhile, Swiatek bounced back after a disappointing start to the 2023 season. After failing to win the Australian Open, Swiatek took some time to reset and then won Doha before finishing as runner-up to Barbora Krejcikova in the Dubai final. Next up for Swiatek will be Indian Wells, where she will try to defend her title.
