British tennis ace pulls out of event after car boot saga and is mocked by Andy Murray
The British No. 5 has not played a match since March and was set to compete in the upcoming Nottingham Open before banging his head on a car boot and ending up concussed.
Announcing the news of his freak accident, Broady was teased by Andy Murray, who wasn’t surprised to hear about the 30-year-old’s gaffe.
“Some bad news… Was on track for next week but I hit my head on my car boot on Sunday evening quite hard,” the world No. 147 wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Tuesday.
“Tried to practise yesterday and got a pretty bad migraine. Turns out I have a concussion! So won’t be ready for Nottingham. Hopefully Ilkley if all goes to plan.”
Broady and Murray often have light-hearted arguments on the social media platform, with the three-time Grand Slam champion calling out his compatriot for exaggerating things. But it was a different story this time around
The former world No. 1 replied: “Think this is the first time I’ve read one of your tweets and believed it,” adding a laughing emoji.
Broady has been sidelined with an ankle problem for two-and-a-half months. He injured himself at the beginning of the season during a match against Andrey Rublev at the Hong Kong Open and was forced to pull out of the Australian Open qualifying tournament.
In a statement at the time, the Brit wrote: “I have two bone stresses in my ankle that got worse in Hong Kong until I felt I couldn’t move properly on court in my last match. When I arrived in Melbourne I got an MRI which confirmed what the pain was. If I continue to play there’s a high chance they could become fractures and instead of a month out it could be three.”
