Rickie Fowler’s Never-Ending Struggle Continues; Unfavorable PGA Tour Outcomes Force Him to Be Indecisive

It has been over two months since the 2024 season of the PGA Tour started and in none of the tournaments was Rickie Fowler in contention. The 6-time PGA Tour winner has been spiraling down a rabbit hole and cannot seem to get out of it. Over the last six starts, Fowler has not made a single top 10, 20, or even a top 30 finish.

At every other event, he is reluctant with his driving and the ordinary performance has made the 35-year-old pro to be extremely indecisive with his clubs. Till now, Fowler has changed three different drivers before settling on the newly released driver by the Cobra.

Rickie Fowler makes the third driver change

The 6-time PGA Tour winner started his PGA Tour season at The Sentry and played with the Cobra Aerojet LS driver. However, it couldn’t yield the performance that Rickie Fowler expected as he finished 56th on the leaderboard. Soon, he changed it to the Cobra Darkspeed LS (Low-Spin) driver. Fowler played three events with this driver; The American Express, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and the WM Phoenix Open.

However, despite the change, Fowler missed two cuts that were at the AmEx and the People’s Open, while he was tied for 47 at the AT&T PB Pro-Am. Then came the third signature event for Fowler, The Genesis Invitational. He switched to Aerojet LS (the original driver he started with) but was yet again at T35 and out of the winning circle.

Fowler has been attempting to replicate the success he previously had on the Tour and before starting the Cognizant Classic opted for the newly released Cobra Darkspeed X model with a new Project X Denali Black 70TX shaft. After this switch, he was tied for 41 at the Classic. He will be playing with the same equipment at the Arnold Palmer Invitational too.

The 35-year-old was struggling as his stats say that he is 167th in SG: Tee to Green and 127th in Driving Accuracy in the entirety of the PGA Tour. Fowler might have found his mistakes, hence he is sticking with the new driver for the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but what was he struggling with?
