Ian Poulter Hurt by Rory McIlroy’s ‘Extremely Disappointing’ Stance – Confesses Upsetting Ryder Cup Truth
It is the first time in my life that I have felt betrayal.” – said a disgruntled Rory McIlroy back in 2022 when talking about his feelings towards his former Ryder Cup teammates. However, come 2024, he seems to have changed his stance about the breakaway league a bit, all the while calling for Jon Rahm’s inclusion at Bethpage next year. But even so, it appears Ian Poulter is still displeased with much of what was said back then by many.
The veteran of the biennial event was recently spotted talking to Gulf News about his exclusion from the event following his defection. Meanwhile, as he did so, the Majesticks GC co-captain went ahead to confess how he no longer wanted to be involved in the prestigious tournament following the comments made by others ahead of Rome.
Ian Poulter says ‘No’ to a Ryder Cup future
Talking to the media not too long ago, the Englishman said, “Too much happened last time, Too much was said,” before continuing, “That’s extremely disappointing from my perspective with the way certain people were treated and spoken about with reference to the Ryder Cup.” Moreover, he highlighted how displeasing it was “when certain people have committed a lot of their life to work extremely hard for that product.”
Adding on, he recalled how “they didn’t need me(sic) last time,” while referring to the tournament and comments from many of the professionals, especially McIlroy, ahead of Rome. “That’s from an everything perspective,” said the 48-year-old before going ahead to dishearteningly admit, “I’m not needed.”
