Following their playing career, Magic Johnson got an opportunity to meet Bill Russell and Larry Bird, and his inner fanboy couldn’t contain himself. In an Instagram post shared by Larry Bird, the three of them can be seen on a basketball court when Magic Johnson pointed at Bill Russell and said that he was his idol. Then Johnson praised Russell for his accomplishments on the court and stated that Russell has 11 championships, and that’s the most ever.

Johnson then invited Larry Bird onto the screen to say that he was his other idol. He went on to explain that he tried to get as many rings as Bill Russell, but he couldn’t. To this, Bill Russell replied, “It was a noble effort though“. He teased Magic Johnson that, even though he tried, it was never possible.
