‘My Work Could Be an Inspiration to Some People’- Iga Swiatek Rejoices Her Newly Found Echelon in Tennis

Iga Swiatek, the 20-year-old, has taken the world by surprise by winning back-to-back 17 matches. The pole has performed splendidly in this year’s hard court season. When Swiatek started the year, she was holding the ranking of no.8 from where, within a few months, she has leapfrogged to the World No.1.

Swiatek just finished her summer double journey and what a journey it was. She took both Indian Wells and the Miami Open in one go. Meanwhile, other joyous news was waiting to knock on her doors. As soon as Iga finished her Miami run, she received the official news of being ranked no.1 by the WTA. She expressed her feeling by writing, “It’s official today and I want to give myself, my family, my team, and partners a moment to celebrate it and to be happy about it…”

Iga is a flag-bearer of Poland in tennis, as she is the first polish player to be ranked no.1. Though it doesn’t mean she is a commoner to the rest of the world. She is the first woman to win three Master 1000 titles in a year and the fourth woman to win the Sunshine Doubles. Further, the 20-year-old shares record with world-renowned players such as Venus Williams and Maria Sharapova.

Iga Swiatek earlier pointed out that she wasn’t getting enough rest during the Miami. However, she didn’t make a big deal out of it and continued her game. Now that the Miami Open has ended, Iga confessed to her requirement for rest as she has incurred an arm injury owing to a long run. Although the injury isn’t big, she will have to sideline the upcoming Charleston Open.
