‘Love to Know’: Nelly Korda Goes Ancestry Hunting After Losing the Family Battle at the 2023 PNC Championship
The 2023 PNC Championship marked the appearance of Team Korda for the 3rd time. Although the ex-tennis pro, Petr Korda, and the LPGA Tour cover girl, Nelly Korda, could not win the event, they surely created some memorable moments on the Floridian greens.
After taking in the defeat at the family event, Team Korda decided to increase the familial feeling and go back to their roots. Amidst the intense competition, Korda and her father dug deep into their ancestry by collaborating with a special partner.
Nelly Korda’s parents relocated from the Czech Republic to America, Florida, for the sake of their children’s better future. The then-professional tennis stars left everything that belonged to them — their ancestry and history in the Crownlands of Bohemia.
Now, after many decades, the Korda family decided to research and know more about what they had left. In one of her Instagram videos, Korda shared her collaboration with Ancestry, an organization that reveals the history and traditions of a family.
The 1x major champ and the 1998 tennis slam winner sat together and shared the experience of finding the hidden truth about their roots. Petr Korda said, “Since we bringing the family tree across the pond, wouldn’t it be nice to know what we left behind?”
The 8x LPGA Tour winner added, “I’d love to know what like they did in the past, like their job.” Team Korda went on to do just that and found that their great-grandfather was a steel merchant and was excited to share the full history with their families. Korda expressed her pleasure with Ancestry and felt “it was super cool” and more like watching “a little movie.” The Korda family might have changed their abode but their athletic and sports genes passed down to their children.
