There haven’t been many players on both the men’s and women’s tours who have had a better year than Lydia Ko this year.
She has done well in the past as well; she once spent 85 consecutive weeks (over 19 months) at the top of the women’s world ranking charts. Ko currently has 18 PGA Tour wins, including two majors and has already won twice this season.
Ko has had a brilliant season so far. In an interview, she was asked if she was a better player now than she was before. She responded by saying that her mother would definitely say the past.
Ko’s mother keeps her grounded
Despite her recent success, the LPGA star has yet to reach the top again. In fact, it’s been more than 5 years since Lydia ranked first. Ko was the youngest ever player among both genders to reach rank one, doing so at 17 years, 9 months, and 9 days.

In a recent interview at the LPGA Tour Championship, Ko was asked if she thought she was a better player now than back when she ranked No. 1. Ko responded, saying, “I hope so because it’s seven years from then.” She also went on to add that her mother had a different opinion. She said her mother often joked with her, saying, “You played so much better when you were like 15.”
