Despite Returning to World No. 1, Nelly Korda Laments ‘Stupid Mistakes’ After Missing $765,000 Payday
Though Nelly Korda may be one of the best golfers in the world currently, even she faces the troubles of mastering the sport. The new world number one failed to win the Chevron Championship this past weekend. Though Korda could have won the Major if only she hadn’t choked on several birdie opportunities. The LPGA star doesn’t mind criticizing herself publicly.
LPGA’s first Major of the season concluded after three days of golf with the highest caliber. The event saw the crowning of Lilia Vu, win her maiden Major and the $765,000 prize money. However, her route to victory wasn’t easy as she had to face Angel Yin in the play-off since both golfers were tied to -10 after the final round at The Woodlands.
Nelly Korda too could have joined California-born golfers in the playoffs but she fell short one stroke of the duo. Later while speaking to Sports Illustrated, the Olympic Gold Medalist didn’t shy away from calling herself out.
Nelly Korda trolls herself after missing putts
After missing the opportunity to add a second Major win to her resume, Nelly shared her thoughts on her performance in Texas. “Just know that there are bogeys out there and you try to minimize your mistakes as much as possible”, said the golfer while referring to her missed putts.
During her three rounds at the Chevron Championship, the younger Korda sister recorded nine bogeys. She reveals how the poor shots were making her frustrated. Nelly said, “I was punching the air a couple times after my two three-putts, which those are kind of stupid mistakes”. Nonetheless, tough days on the golf course are a part of the sport, and the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship is well aware of that.
