Iga Swiatek reveals her honest expectation for Coco Gauff semifinal in Beijing

Iga Swiatek highlighted she is “aware of what Coco Gauff has been doing” and admitted she expects “a difficult and tight match” against the reigning US Open champion. On Friday, No 2 seed Swiatek recovered from a set down to beat Caroline Garcia 6-7 (8) 7-6 (5) 6-1 win and set up a Beijing semifinal against Gauff.

Meanwhile, Gauff saw off Maria Sakkari 6-2 6-4 for her 16th consecutive win. “I haven’t seen her much, but I’m aware of what she’s doing. I also know how she plays, what has improved and what has changed. I’ll use that information and not overanalyze it too much because I think we’re both good players.

Now we just have to fight and it probably won’t be an easy match. It will be tight,” Swiatek said, via The Tennis Letter.

Gauff recently claimed her first win over Swiatek
En route to winning her first WTA 1000 title, Gauff defeated Swiatek in the Cincinnati semifinal.

For 19-year-old Gauff, it was her first win over Swiatek. Prior to their Cincinnati match, Gauff was 0-7 against Swiatek. After winning back-to-back titles in Cincinnati and the US Open, Gauff is now also two wins away from winning her third consecutive title.

Meanwhile, Swiatek has gone four consecutive tournaments without a title and there is no doubt that she wants to change that in Beijing. So far in Beijing, Swiatek has dropped just one set in four matches played. “I just feel like I’m going in the right direction.

All of these wins mean that I’m one of the top players in the world. It’s great to feel that. It’s great to have the effect of all your work. You kind of feel more satisfaction,” Swiatek said.
