Andy Murray details ‘tricky’ struggles after Juan Ignacio Londero win at Shanghai Masters
Andy Murray has admitted it took him some time to get up to full speed on the fast courts in Shanghai against Juan Ignacio Londero.
The former world No 1 was in a spot of trouble early on with the Argentine dictating play throughout the first set, eventually taking it 6-2
But Murray eventually began to push further forward, forcing his opponent into more errors before serving out for the match in the deciding set.
For Murray, it’s another step in the right direction for him to be challenging at the top level on a regular basis.
“The courts are playing much, much faster and arriving fairly late from Beijing [meant] I didn’t get a lot of time to get used to it.
“Juan had obviously played a couple matches in the qualis and he was timing the ball really nicely at the beginning and I was sort of backing off the baseline and letting him dictate.
“I had to start going for my shots a little bit more, started being a bit more aggressive on the return and taking his time away a little bit.
And the Shanghai Masters present a new challenge altogether that he hasn’t faced since making his return from injury.
