Iga Swiatek discloses private Roger Federer chat behind US Open title defence
Staying consistent when you’re on top of the world isn’t easy, and to help out Iga Swiatek asked Roger Federer for guidance before the 2023 US Open.
Roger Federer may no longer be an active tennis player, but one of the all time greats is still inspiring those still in the game. The former World No 1 spoke to reigning US Open champion Iga Swiatek before the start of the competition and gave some advice.
Swiatek is the best women’s player in the world at the moment, and the 22-year-old has already won four Grand Slams. The Polish player won the French Open for the third time this year, and recorded her best finish at Wimbledon in July before preparing for the final Grand Slam of 2023.
Swiatek defended her French Open title, and is looking to do the same in New York and win the US Open again. Although she may be the most dangerous player in the women’s game, there is a pressure that comes with being at the top.
Federer knows exactly what that’s like, and spoke to Swiatek about how he approached it during his career. She disclosed that message immediately after her latest big win in the US Open third round.
