Iga Swiatek ‘sad’ after Netflix ignore tennis star’s pleas as Pole ‘opts out’ of series
Iga Swiatek admitted that she wasn’t happy with the final edit of her episode in Netflix’s tennis documentary series. The world No 1 featured in part two of Break Point which was released ahead of Wimbledon. And she reportedly won’t be returning for season two after airing her grievances over elements that were left out of the first season.
Swiatek was one of several tennis stars who featured in Netflix’s Drive To Survive-style tennis series filmed over the course of the 2022 season, with one episode chronicling her US Open title victory. But she has now revealed that camera crews were with her at various other points throughout the year, including at her charity exhibition match to raise funds for Ukraine, with all of the footage being left out.
“I think it’s great that we have something like that in tennis,” she said of Break Point during this week’s Cincinnati Open. “On the other hand, from our perspective when we watch the show, we know sometimes a little bit more and we know that this is the show also for people who don’t know a lot about tennis.”
While the four-time Grand Slam champion said she understood why Netflix picked the subject matter that they did, she was still saddened to see her charity match left out after inviting the cameras into her private life. Swiatek continued: “I totally get why they are doing stuff like that, but there was some stuff that I wanted to be included – for example, the exhibition in Krakow – but it wasn’t.
