Rafael Nadal tipped to change retirement plan by ex-pro pal ahead of Wimbledon

Tennis great Rafael Nadal has been tipped to change his retirement plan by ex-professional and friend Juan Monaco ahead of Wimbledon. Nadal, aged 37, has been given a five-month recovery, meaning his season is set to be over already.

The Spaniard was forced to pull out of the French Open last month and admitted that 2024 could be his final year before calling time on his illustrious career. Nadal hinted that November’s Davis Cup Finals could mark his return to competitive action.

Nadal was sidelined as Novak Djokovic clinched his 23rd Grand Slam crown at Roland-Garros earlier this month and he will also miss Wimbledon, starting next week. Nine-time ATP title winner Monaco believes that Nadal will come back with a winning attitude and tipped him to change his retirement plans.

“I think if he decides to return, to train hard to return to the tour is to win,” Monaco told Clay. “If he doesn’t, he won’t come back.
