Andy Murray issues Wimbledon threat to Alcaraz and Djokovic as winning run continues

Andy Murray is on a seven-match winning streak after beating Hugo Grenier at the Nottingham Challenger on Thursday.

Andy Murray insists he is having no problems recovering in between matches for what’s been a busy two weeks for the Brit in an ominous warning to his ATP Tour rivals heading into Wimbledon. The three-time major champion won his first grasscourt title since 2016 at Surbiton last week.

And he’s carried that fine form into Nottingham, comfortably progressing to the quarter-finals. Belgian Joris De Loore was no match for the No 1 seed on Tuesday and Murray was able to win in straight sets once again against Frenchman Hugo Grenier.

It’s now seven-straight wins for the 36-year-old as he builds up some momentum ahead of Wimbledon. The busy schedule has raised some questions on how Murray’s body will hold up by the time the Grand Slam comes around when he could face the likes of Carlos Alcaraz or Novak Djokovic.

But Murray insists he’s in a good place physically with plenty more left in the tank. “I feel like I moved well there,” Murray said.

“The matches haven’t been too long. The final in Surbiton was quite a quick one and then the first round [here].

“I’m recovering well. It’s been a lot of matches for me. I’m an old boy now so takes me a little bit longer to recover but I’m feeling good.”
