‘Tough Break’: Golf Fans Sympathise With LIV Defector Dustin Johnson After His Disappointing Start
The first round of the US Open saw some great performances of top players and even gave the golf world a new record for a low round of two 62s in a major championship by Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele. But the real test began on the second day.
The second round brought with itself a list of difficulties and Dustin Johnson is at the receiving end of it. The LACC which was being admired for ease on the first day, got a lot more tougher on the second with Dustin Johnson ending up making a very nasty mistake.
Johnson shined on day one at LACC and even made a personal record of his own. His opening round of 64 beat his score of 65 or better in a major championship. With this, he matched the all-time mark set by Tiger Woods, who is not playing at the tournament due to his injury. This even took him ahead of Jack Nicklaus and Rory McIlroy who is also competing at the Open. But Day 2 went in just the opposite direction for Johnson. He performed a big blunder of par-4 second and shot a quadruple-bogey 8.
The Quadruple bogey = 4-over par on a hole, and that too at such an important tournament, is going to reflect badly on Johnson. To his understanding, Dustin tried to play safe avoiding the barranca, but somehow ended up there only. Surely this cost Dustin his good reputation of yesterday as he dramatically falls to -2. The news was shared by NUCLR Golf on Twitter: “Dustin Johnson just made a quadruple bogey on #2 at LACC! He falls back to -2 #USOpen2023″
