Andy Murray dealt bad news ahead of Wimbledon after Carlos Alcaraz update

Carlos Alcaraz has provided an update after a doctor revealed that he injured his wrist at the French Open. The world No 2 was in doubt to play Queen’s ahead of Wimbledon but appeared to confirm his participation on Tuesday. And it comes as bad news to Andy Murray as the Brit bids to be seeded at Wimbledon, as he could face Alcaraz early on in Queen’s.

Alcaraz suffered another injury setback at the recent French Open. The 20-year-old started cramping during his semi-final against Novak Djokovic and ended up winning just one more game after the issues set in.

The Spaniard’s doctor Juanjo Lopez has since revealed that he had also injured his left wrist after taking a fall during the match. It left Alcaraz in doubt for Queen’s – the ATP 500 event held in London ahead of Wimbledon.

The 10-time title winner was also forced to pull out of the tournament 12 months ago and has never played a tour event on the grass. But he appeared to give an update after undergoing some medical tests on Thursday, tweeting a photo of himself on the grass alongside some emojis including the word ‘soon’ and tagging Queen’s.

And the Grand Slam champion will also get some extra grass-court preparations in at the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic at the Hurlingham Club from June 27 to July 1 after joining the line-up along with Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Karen Khachanov, Frances Tiafoe and Cameron Norrie.
While Alcaraz’s participation at Queen’s will be welcome news to British tennis fans who will get a chance to see one of the sport’s biggest young stars in action, it spells trouble for the rest of the field – including Murray.

With one of the most in-form players staying in the draw, Murray will be at risk of facing the world No 2 in one of the early rounds. If the 36-year-old does come up against Alcaraz early on and loses, it could wreck his chances of getting a seeded spot at Wimbledon.
