McIlroy and Stoll were married for seven years before the golfer filed a petition to dissolve their marriage in Florida on May 13.
They share one daughter, Poppy, who they welcomed in 2020.
Just one day before the filing, Balionis posted a sweet tribute to McIlroy, whom she has interviewed many times at various tournaments.
Alongside a photo of her and McIlroy wearing matching color-coordinated outfits, Balionis wrote, “The King of the Queen City does it again. Congratulations to @rorymcilroy for his second win in a row and his 26th (!!) on the PGA TOUR. It’s hard not to think about what his game and current confidence could mean for the 2nd Major of the season next week.”
After McIlroy and Stoll’s breakup was confirmed, a source told PEOPLE that members of McIlroy’s Florida community were stunned by the split.
The insider said McIlroy is “so private that there wasn’t a lot of speculation concerning his family life,” adding, “We are wondering what happened.”
