Murray makes plea as Kalinskaya supports Sinner at French Open – What you missed on day 4
It was another day spoiled by the rain at the French Open, with less than an hour of play on the outside courts before the matches were postponed and eventually called off.
It meant that the only action was on Court Philippe-Chatrier and Court Suzanne-Lenglen. Iga Swiatek defeated Naomi Osaka in a thriller as Andy Murray issued a plea to the WTA about the match.
Coco Gauff was also in action, giving some young fans a shoutout, while No. 2 seed Jannik Sinner had his own support in the night session from new girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya.
Murray calls out WTA
While Swiatek and Osaka gripped the tennis world as they played an incredible three-hour match which saw the world No. 1 save a match point to win 7-5 in the third. It’s no surprise that they caught Murray’s attention as he followed along three days after crashing out of the singles draw himself.
And he used the match as an opportunity to make a plea to the women’s tennis tour about the way they promote the sport and their players. “Osaka vs Swiatek is a brilliant watch,” he tweeted. “wta need to do more to capitalise on these match ups!”
Kalinskaya spotted watching Sinner
Two days after Sinner confirmed that he was dating fellow tennis star Kalinskaya, she was back in the stands to cheer him on in his second-round match against Richard Gasquet. The world No. 25 also watched his first-round match, fuelling speculation that they were in a relationship.
Sinner finally addressed it on Monday and told Italian media: “I don’t like to talk about my private life much, but yes, Anna and I are dating.” He also watched Kalinskaya beat Clara Burel in her opening match and could support her when she takes on Bianca Andreescu.
