Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth Among Notables to Miss Cut at 2024 Masters

The 2024 Masters has reached the halfway point, and with it comes the 36-hole cut. The top 50 players and ties make the Masters cut, and as the wind howled and scores ballooned Friday afternoon, this cutline slowly crept up before settling at 6 over, allowing several players, including Hideki Matsuyama (76-74), Rickie Fowler (76-74), Tom Kim (72-78) and Adam Scott (76-74) to slip into the weekend right on the number.

Tiger Woods successfully made his 24th consecutive Masters cut, which broke the Masters record he had shared with Fred Couples and Gary Player.

Defending champion Jon Rahm flirted with the cutline but made the weekend after a 76 on Friday. He’s 5 over.

But as 40 mph wind gusts came and went, several surprising players were blown off course. Among those heading home early from the 2024 Masters:

Notable Players to Miss Cut at 2024 Masters
Justin Thomas crashed and burned in stunning fashion in a callback to his late collapse and MC in the Augusta rain last year. This one is really going to sting: JT finished his round with double bogeys on 15 and 16, a bogey on 17 and a death-knell double on 18 to miss the cut by one shot. Yikes.

Jordan Spieth finished his opening round Friday morning, and he quadruple-bogeyed the par-5 15th to all but seal an early exit. The 2015 Masters champion signed for 79 on Friday morning and 74 Friday night to miss the cut by two shots.

Viktor Hovland, last year’s FedEx Cup champion and one of the best players today without a major title, staggered to an 81 on Friday to miss the weekend by two.

Wyndham Clark entered the week as arguably the second-hottest player in the world behind Scottie Scheffler, but he found no Augusta magic in his Masters debut while hanging a 73-78 to miss by one.

Brian Harman, the left-handed British Open champ, was cooked by a Thursday 81 before rallying for a 72 in tougher conditions on Friday to miss by three.

Dustin Johnson, the 2020 champion, opened with 78 and signed for 79 on Friday. He finished two shots out of last place.

Fred Couples, who previously co-owned the longest made-cut streak with Woods, finished 12 over through 36 holes.
