Jon Rahm fuels LIV Golf’s rivalry with PGA Tour by making Masters plea

Jon Rahm, the defending champion of The Masters, has expressed his confidence that one of the 13 LIV Golf stars will emerge victorious in the upcoming tournament. The Spanish golfing sensation won his first Green Jacket last year, beating Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed.

Since then, he’s joined the breakaway league in a whopping £450m deal, demonstrating the financial power of the Saudi owners amidst ongoing peace talks with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. Despite not earning world ranking points, LIV events have attracted huge names – 10 out of the 13 are Major champions, including seven previous Masters winners.

Speaking ahead of LIV Miami, Rahm said: “There are quite a few major champions in LIV, and there are a few that are Major Champion quality golfers. So just pure numbers, if you go with maths, the odds of a LIV player winning wouldn’t be the highest, but I’m confident that one of us can get it done this year.”

Adding to the conversation, two-time champion Bubba Watson said: “There’s some great golf being played out here, some great golf being played on the other tours, and so it’s going to be a battle. We are pulling for our friends no matter where they play but it’s going to be a battle and hopefully it is a LIV player and hopefully I’m in that top five or challenging on Sunday.”
