Inside Jack Grealish’s touching friendship with 12-year-old fan that shows Man City player’s true colours
It’s not just on the pitch that Jack Grealish is special.
The former Aston Villa winger arrived at Manchester City in a then-British record £100million move in 2021 and after a difficult first season at the Etihad, the England international truly found his feet during the club’s historic treble-winning campaign last year. Playing a total of 50 games for his club across all competitions, Grealish chipped in with five goals and 11 assists as he became an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s side.
But he also made waves off the pitch. Ahead of the winter World Cup in Qatar, Grealish famously made friends with young City fan Finlay Fisher, who has cerebral palsy just like Jack’s sister Hollie. After Finlay found out about Hollie, the youngster decided to write a heartwarming letter to the City star that kickstarted a heartwarming friendship.
Footie-mad Finlay wrote: “To Jack, my name is Finlay and I am 11 years old. I am a huge Man City and England fan. I have cerebral palsy and I saw that your sister has cerebral palsy too. Are you a good brother to her?
“I love the way you are really good with your sister, you really get it. You always have her there with you and you look really proud. Especially when you won the league.”
The lovely note continued: “I wish there were more people in the world just like you who treat people with disabilities the same as anyone else. It makes me really happy when I see you, a famous footballer, know what it’s like to live with people with cerebral palsy.”
He went on: “My dad is really good and takes me to Man City on a Monday to train even though he supports [Man] United. He plays with me in the garden and he never lets me win – I will one day.
